Say No to Get to Yes

Say No to Get to Yes

How many of the things you do in life move you closer to your goals? Are you spending hours on favors for other people or do you simply find yourself getting distracted? You may just need to say no to get to yes.

Saying no starts with being okay to say no. Don’t worry about hurting other people’s feelings. You have an important purpose and saying no to things that distract you from this purpose are key to achieving goals. If you fear disappointing someone else, the fear actually comes from inside you. You may feel like you have to constantly meet expectations to live up to some self-imposed standard. The reality is nobody else is judging you this way. And if they are, you don’t need them in your life. Stop playing mind games and focus on the truly important things in life.

More importantly, when you say no to one thing, you are saying yes to something else. You are saying yes to the most important things in your day. What are those you ask? They are the the crucial items to move your business forward, grow your career, fulfill your mission or serve your target customer.

Lingering Doubts

Still worried about what other people may think if you say no? Well what are you going to think of yourself after 1, 2 or 5 years of neglecting the critical items? Who would you rather disappoint? Yourself for not achieving your purpose or other people who’s tasks don’t align with your vision?

Maybe you enjoy doing favors for others. That’s perfectly fine! Just don’t let it stop you from moving forward with your true purpose. You may need to set a weekly number of how many favors you do for others that don’t align with your purpose. I think you should work to eliminate those altogether, but sometimes it isn’t realistic.

Once you start saying no, it gets easier. And when you realize how much time you have to spend on the truly important things, you won’t look back. You’ll see more success in your career, but more importantly, you’ll be providing more value for others. When this happens, it is scientifically proven that your own happiness will increase.

Simply by saying no, you can change the quality of your life and those you serve. Accept the higher calling. Say no to get to yes.
